WHAT OBJECTIVE 1 FUNDING MEANS FOR PEMBROKESHIRE TOURISM

Objective 1 status is given to areas within the European Union which have significant economic problems.

The benchmark for Objective 1 status is 75% GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the average in the EU 15 member states. (Our funding was granted prior to the new Eastern European states entering the EU).

Pembrokeshire has the second lowest rate of all Welsh Unitary Authorities at just 66% of the average EU 15 member states.

We have the lowest recorded GDP growth in Wales, with just 13.6% in the period 1982 to 1995 (the latest available data), compared with growth rates approaching 80% in Torfaen over the same period.

A number of different projects have been set up with Objective 1 funding. All have a common purpose. To help boost economic activity in Pembrokeshire and create more and better jobs.

The Pembrokeshire Tourism project is called: ‘Identification and Development of New Tourism Products and Packages in Pembrokeshire’.

It is our mission to extend the tourism season in Pembrokeshire so we receive more visitors in autumn, winter and spring, thus providing tourism providers with more sustainable year-round businesses.

Our aim is to help small businesses working within the tourism industry to become more competitive nationally and internationally by developing a collective approach to build a more sustainable future.

We have a beautiful but fragile environment, our greatest asset. It is our job – yours and ours – to create a successful and profitable year-round tourism industry which has minimum impact on that environment.

Our Objective 1 project ia a good reason to join Pembrokeshire Tourism. Your contribution will help us to make a difference to the quality of life in Pembrokeshire.
